Survey to give input on region’s hotel demand

Bundaberg Regional Council is seeking input from industry and visitors for the Hotel Demand Study.

Local businesses, community groups and accommodation providers can help shape the future of the region’s tourism industry by providing feedback as part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s Hotel Demand Study.

Tourism and Hospitality Services Australia (THSA), on behalf of Council, has launched five surveys targeted at accommodation providers, professional conference and event organisers, business and community groups, hotel guests, and visitors.

Input from these key groups is sought to inform Council’s advocacy initiatives for attracting hotel investment in the region.

Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said it was important for Council to hear from a broad range of industry stakeholders.

“I really encourage everyone who has a vested interest in short-term accommodation in our region to complete the survey,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“We know investment in suitable short-term accommodation is necessary and we are committed to engaging our local industry to take their feedback into account.

“The surveys will collect vital information that will allow us to target our advocacy efforts in the best way.”

Mayor Blackburn said Council is working collaboratively with Bundaberg Tourism and THSA to achieve the best outcome for the region’s hospitality and tourism sector.

“Hotel investment attraction is a key advocacy area for Council to support future growth in the region,” she said.

  1. Start building as many motels as you can right now. Cyclone Alfred has destroyed most of the beaches in larger areas. Even Harvey Bay… our more local beaches are safe. This means tourists will have to come here.

Lifestyle residents will come here as well so start building apartments & houses as well.
When people think beaches we will now be the first place to come from 1770 – Woodgate.

One day the sand will return to effected beaches but that’s going to take along time.

  2. I’m in favor of knocking down our old motels to aid in building newer better motels with more rooms. Knock down the ones with only 20 rooms or less that are dated. Would add to the viability of the newer more expensive motels if we got rid of the dated ones. If you knocked down the ones on Bourbong street that are right next to each other you could put a huge motel in there place.

It may also free up space for other business.

  3. There’s several buildings on the base hospital grounds that could be converted into motel accommodation. If you hurry up on the new level 5 hospital…
