Husband and wife team, Kayla and Josh Beazley, have created a male youth group to promote mental wellbeing amongst young men aged 10 to 17.
Find out what they had to say about their organisation:
What inspired you to choose the Bundaberg Region as the location for your new organisation, and how do you see it fitting into the local landscape?
The Bundaberg Region holds a special place in our hearts, as it’s home to a tight-knit community with a deep sense of support for one another.
We chose Bundaberg because we believe there is a real need for a safe, empowering space for young men to explore their emotions and build resilience.
As the local community already values connection and care, Aussie Brothers can complement this by offering a unique opportunity for boys to develop emotionally, physically, and socially.
We hope to be an integral part of fostering the next generation of emotionally strong, resilient young men.
Can you provide an overview of the services your organisation will offer and how they cater to local needs?
Aussie Brothers provides various services, including fortnightly youth group afternoons on Monday 4:30pm-6pm starting again on Monday 10th March, Day camps, and Weekend camps which we look to launch in the school holidays.
These services are specifically designed to help young men aged 10-17 explore their emotions, learn valuable life skills, and foster meaningful connections.
Our activities—such as learning to change a tyre, cooking a BBQ, and engaging in team challenges—help boys develop practical skills while focusing on mental health and emotional well-being.
We also prioritize safe spaces for open discussions, so participants can learn that it’s okay to talk about their mental health struggles.
By offering these programs, we aim to fill a crucial gap in Bundaberg by providing emotional support, resilience-building, and life skill development for young men.
Dates and further information including cost for the fortnightly Youth Group can be found on our Facebook page – Aussie Brothers Youth Group.
What milestones have you achieved in the lead-up to your opening, and how do you plan to celebrate your launch with the community?
In the lead-up to opening, we’ve created a robust, supportive environment where boys can feel comfortable being themselves.
We have held a handful of meet & greets initially to spread the word and get people involved, we’re excited to hold our first day camp event in the school holidays, and welcome local young men to come together and learn more about our mission.
It will be a day of fun activities, valuable information, and a chance to celebrate the beginning of this important journey.
What positive experiences have shaped your journey in establishing this organisation?
Josh’s personal experience as a young adolescent struggling with mental health played a major role in establishing Aussie Brothers.
His journey of learning to navigate emotions, build resilience, and find support through trusted local mentors inspired him to create a similar environment for other young men.
This journey, along with the support and encouragement of his wife Kayla, has shaped the foundation of Aussie Brothers.
The feedback from local families and the positive reception we’ve received from the Bundaberg community have further reinforced the importance of this work.
How can local residents and businesses support your new venture, and what role do you see them playing in your success?
Local residents and businesses can support Aussie Brothers by spreading the word about our services, attending our events, and encouraging young men to join our programs.
Businesses can also partner with us by sponsoring activities or providing in-kind donations, such as materials for camps or event spaces.
We see local businesses playing an essential role in helping us reach more young men in the community and ensuring that our programs are accessible and impactful.
Together, we can create a stronger, more resilient future for our youth.
What message do you hope to convey to the local community as you embark on this exciting new chapter?
We want the local community to know that Aussie Brothers is here to provide a safe and supportive environment for young men to grow, connect, and thrive.
Our message is simple: it’s okay to feel, and it’s okay to ask for help. We hope to foster a generation of emotionally strong young men who are equipped to navigate life’s challenges, all while building lasting friendships and developing important life skills.
This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to have the community join us in creating a lasting positive impact.
Where are you located and how can the community find out more or contact you?
We are based in Bundaberg, and all of our programs are designed to serve the local community.
To learn more about upcoming events, camps, and registration details, residents can visit our Facebook page, where we post regular updates.
You can also contact us directly through our website or by reaching out via email or phone for more information.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
We are incredibly excited to embark on this journey with the Bundaberg community and can’t wait to see how our group grows and thrives.
At Aussie Brothers, our goal is to provide not just activities, but a lasting support network for young men who may not always have an outlet to express themselves.
We believe that by working together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of these young men and help them develop the emotional resilience they need to succeed.
