Autumn is a great time to head into Bundaberg Regional Galleries with the new season program packed full of intriguing exhibitions and opportunities to get hands-on.
Opening on Friday 14 February, four new exhibitions at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery offer something for everyone, including a new perspective on a well-loved Collection and an insightful look at an awe-inspiring landscape.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts, Heritage and Asset Management portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the community had a lot to look forward to in the Autumn program.
“We have a bumper Autumn program at Bundaberg Regional Galleries, with new exhibitions opening in February and April, across both of our gallery locations,” Cr Learmonth said.
“By continuing to champion local artists, along with displaying world-class exhibitions from Australia and abroad, our galleries play an important part in growing the region’s cultural heart.
“In addition to the wonderful exhibitions on offer, there are art-making activities and talks that will appeal to the entire community.”
Opening in February, Dr Egmont Schmidt Memorial Collection: A Contemporary Lens showcases the historically important and culturally valuable collection of artworks by early 20th century painters and printmakers.
Now, 100 years after the creation of many of the artworks, Bundaberg Regional Galleries will invite the community to create their own artworks in response to the Collection in a ‘living’ exhibition that will grow as new artworks are hung alongside the historical works.
Younger art lovers also have the chance to get hands-on with APT11 Kids on Tour in Imaginarts offering a range of interactive activities suitable for all ages.
At Childers Arts Space, local artist Cate Verney’s exhibition, It Hangs by a Delicate Thread, reflects the changing moods of wallum heath through the use of natural materials.
Cate’s connection with the environment developed over years spent exploring and researching the diverse ecosystem.
Cr Learmonth said exhibitions with an environmental or ecological focus were a recurring theme throughout the Galleries program for 2025.
“In the second half of the season, exhibitions Wallum Whispers and Neon Coral Confetti both explore different aspects of delicate ecosystems,” Cr Learmonth said.
“These artists express their affinity with the natural world in a way that can inspire us all.
“I encourage everyone to delve into the Galleries Autumn program to discover exhibitions and programs that will spark your creativity.”
