Community members are forging ahead with plans for a Bundaberg to Gin Gin Rail Trail, announcing the establishment of a committee to progress the project.
Following the decision by Bundaberg Regional Council to provide in-principal support for the construction of the Bundaberg to Gin Gin Rail Trail, Coral Isle Cyclists Inc. members sought to establish a new committee to oversee the planning, construction and delivery of the much-anticipated project.
Inaugural President Martin Kelly said the newly established committee was made up of dedicated, skilled, and enthusiastic people from all walks of life.
“Since we announced we would take over responsibility of the delivery of the rail trail project, we have been inundated with offers of support from right across the community,” Martin said.
“Our selection process was not restricted to members of Coral Isle Cyclists; we have cast our net widely and welcomed to the team a diverse group of individuals who each bring a unique set of skills who will help deliver the project with the support of the Department of Transport and Main Roads.”
Vice President Bernie Kemps added the task ahead would require a lot of work and additional pairs of hands.
“Planning and building the Gin Gin Rail Trail will be a mammoth effort,” Bernie said.
“We’re calling on anyone in the community who is willing and able to assist to reach out and let us know how they can help.”
The committee held its first meeting on Wednesday 22 January and will announce details of a public information session in the coming weeks.
Members of the public interested in helping to build this historic project are encouraged to visit the group’s Facebook page and fill out the EOI form or send a message.
