Excitement brewing as Café 641 re-opens

Partners in Care volunteer Barbara Hargreaves serves customers at Café 641 which recently re-opened at Bundaberg Library.

It’s full steam ahead for visitors to the Bundaberg Library as Café 641 is back up and running, offering a selection of hot drinks and tea-time treats.

Open Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to noon, the café is run by volunteers from the Partners in Care Foundation with all proceeds used to support the Bundaberg Hospital.

Bundaberg Regional Council Arts, Heritage and Asset Management portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said it was yet another great reason to visit the library.

“It’s wonderful to have Café 641 open again so that people can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while they make use of all the fantastic services on offer,” Cr Learmonth said.

“For those who may not know, the café was first created as part of the library revamp in November 2012 and is named after the Dewey Decimal number where you will find the books on coffee categorised.

“We encourage everyone to support this service and are very grateful to the volunteers who make it possible.”

Partners in Care Foundation Manager Belinda Nunn said the non-profit community foundation was dedicated to helping local people and local patients.

“Café 641 is one of our social enterprises and the money raised goes towards buying hospital equipment not funded by Queensland Health, staff education, on-site accommodation for the carers and families of inpatients, and providing volunteer led patient support services,” Belinda said.

“Our volunteer baristas are serving up all the different coffees like lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites and we also offer tea.

“Because it’s a library we make all our coffees on smart milk!

“There’s a tempting range of muffins and cookies available too.”

She said those interested in supporting the initiative were encouraged to reach out.

“We are always looking for volunteers to join the team!” she said.

“With our cafés and patient support services we offer over 15 different roles.

“Fill out the brief form online and we will get in touch.

“Becoming a sponsor of Partners in Care Together is simple too.

“Call us on 4150 2863 and we can work on improving the health and care of our community together.”

  • Café 641 is open at the Bundaberg Library from Monday to Friday, 9.30 am to noon, with Eftpos available.
