Riverview Environmental Reserve includes natural bushland, mangroves and tidal flats, with over 1.5 km of walking tracks to explore.

Explore the natural beauty of the Bundaberg Region with a visit to one of the many parks and environmental reserves that can be found in the region.

Riverview Environmental Reserve

Comprising natural bushland, mangroves and tidal flats, Riverview Environmental Reserve stretches along the Elliott River, offering around 1.5 km of walking tracks.

The 1.2 km return River Walk is a sandy track that offers frequent glimpses of sparkling waters, with opportunities to spy Osprey and White-bellied Sea Eagles fishing in the river.

Two inland tracks take visitors further into the reserve, past large specimens of Pink Bloodwoods estimated to be 200-years old.

The short Mangrove Circuit takes visitors to the edge of the mangrove forest, a near pristine mangrove ecosystem with seagrasses, intertidal banks and rock bars that are home to prawns, mud crabs and thousands of other marine species.

Russo Park

Russo Park
Stockyard Creek running through Russo Park attracts a variety of wildlife.

Located just 8 km from Childers, Russo Park features three picturesque short tracks from which visitors can explore vegetation and wildlife along Stockyard Creek.

The Blue Gum track follows the creek through bushland to a very large Blue Gum worthy of a photo opportunity.

Along Stockyard Creek, vegetation shades fast flowing, shallow freshwater and provides a valuable habitat for Azure Kingfishers, frogs and dragonflies.

Take a short climb up the longest track for a view over the surrounding countryside.

The park contains a wide diversity of local native trees shrubs and wildlife, perfect for nature lovers interested in botany or bird spotting.

Burnett Downs River Walk

Along a stretch of the beautiful Burnett River at Sharon is the hidden gem of the Burnett Downs River Walk.

This pleasant 1.5 km route (approx. 3 km return) follows the rivers, offering many scenic views of the water as it passes under a canopy of native trees.

Birds are abundant along the walk, with early morning or afternoon the best time to spot shorebirds fishing in the river and bushland birds chattering overhead.

Meadowvale Environmental Reserve

The beauty of Meadowvale Environmental Reserve will refresh and invigorate visitors as they follow the sandy soil tracks through groves of twisted Paperbarks, under towering Eucalypts and past elegant grass trees.

There are two walks, 1 km and 1.7 km, both leading to Splitters Creek where visitors can look out over the water.

For quiet and patient visitors, especially at dawn and dusk, the mirror-like surface of Splitters Creek may be rippled by the movement of the famously shy Platypus, Ornithorhynchus anatinus.

Meadowvale Environmental Reserve offers two tracks through natural bushland.

Banksia Walking Track

Banksia walking track
Banksia Walking Track in Woodgate winds through coastal banksia, tea trees and fern groves.

Banksia Walking Track in Woodgate features a 400 m picturesque boardwalk through coastal banksias, stands of tea trees, and fern groves beneath towering eucalypts.

Impressive when dry, the area is transformed when it rains.

After the boardwalk, a 5 km circuit track takes visitors through a landscape of wallum heath which is home to a variety of birds and wildlife including sand goannas, Varanus gouldii.

Wildflowers bloom year round with spectacular displays particularly in winter and spring that attract pollinators like native stingless bees.

Barolin Nature Reserve

Barolin Nature Reserve is 300 hectares of natural bush, grassy plains and wetlands with over 4 km of pathways winding through the different habitats.

The diverse environment supports and abundance of wildlife including Eastern Grey Kangaroos and the colourful but shy Rose Crowned Fruit Dove.

Discover over 120 species of native plants in the reserve, including towering Moreton Bay Ash, Corymbia tessellaris and the largest stand of Silver leafed paperbarks, Melaleuca dealbata, in South East Queensland.
