Bundaberg Regional Council has successfully completed flood resilience work in the Monduran area aimed at improving public safety during torrential rain events.
The Diamond Hill Floodway Project, located at Diamond Hill Road, Monduran, has replaced a damaged concrete floodway with a more durable, low-level, fish-friendly structure.
The work was in response to significant damage caused by extreme rainfall during the February/March 2022 rain event.
Roads and Infrastructure (Rural) portfolio spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor highlighted the importance of the project in strengthening the area’s flood resilience.
“The main goal of the project was to construct a new floodway and box culverts so that water can run freely,” he said.
“This new infrastructure will make a real difference in ensuring the road remains safe and accessible during severe weather.
“By improving flood immunity, we’re reducing the likelihood of disruptions and ensuring quicker recovery after storms.”

The new floodway is designed to withstand flash flood conditions, ensuring that the road is passable once floodwaters have receded.
“Reducing the impact of flooding on local roads not only improves safety for drivers but also ensures that the community remains connected even during extreme weather,” Cr Trevor said.
“Working in what can be such a water-logged area presented constant challenges, but the team was resourceful and managed to keep the project moving forward.”
The entire project was completed in December, just in time for the region’s storm season, and has been made possible through QRA funding by the Australian and State Governments.
