Local arts professionals and aspiring creatives can explore the connection between arts and fashion, and make valuable networking connections, at the Connecting Creatives: Arts in Fashion evening on Tuesday 26 November.
Hosted by CQUniversity’s Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) and Bundaberg Regional Galleries, the free event will feature a discussion on art, fashion and design, three disciplines that have interwoven throughout art history.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts, Heritage and Asset Management portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the event would delve into the world of wearable art where the lines between clothing and artistic expression blurred.
“Arts in fashion is the fusion of creativity and functionality, transforming everyday wearable items into canvases that can challenge conventional notions of style,” Cr Learmonth said.
“Having the exhibition Opal Linda Jackson on at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery at the same time, event attendees will benefit from seeing art and fashion combined in Linda’s signature garments.”
CQUniversity Regional Arts Manager Trudie Leigo said the guest speakers would explore the artistry of what drives their work and what inspires them.
“Wendy Roe is the Co-Director and Curator of the Australian Wearable Art Festival and Cindy Vogels is a fashion innovator and designer who creates one off costumes and garments for the screen, stage and red carpet,” Trudie said.
“Both Wendy and Cindy are travelling to Bundaberg to talk about pushing boundaries in the fashion industry through the work they do.
“It will be a great opportunity for aspiring designers and artists to pick their brains.”
Trudie said creatives in regional Queensland have fewer ready-made opportunities and have to be innovative in making their own prospects.
“This often means we have really unique events and businesses spring forth, because people have the freedom to walk their own path,” she said
“Cindy Vogels, creating millinery for Lady Gaga from her hometown of Gympie is a great example of the unique innovation that happens in regional Queensland.”
Trudie said she encouraged anyone interested in creativity, fashion, art, music, costume design and performance to attend the event.
