An innovative and successful program facilitated by Bundaberg Regional Council to bridge
the transition from school to work is expanding thanks to a partnership with Peirson
Services.
Integrated Pathways at Bundaberg (IP@B) is an expansion of the Integrated Pathways at
Kepnock (IP@K) program made possible thanks to funding from the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
IP@K was successfully delivered with the support of Kepnock State High School and a steering committee.
Deputy Mayor Cr Tracey McPhee said, with the support of Peirson Services and local industry, even more students would benefit from the program in 2025 with Bundaberg State and Bundaberg North joining Kepnock State High School.
“IP@B will continue the great work achieved under the initial pilot, supporting more children who are disengaged or at-risk than ever before,” Cr McPhee said.
“Under the guidance of Peirson Services this expanded program will continue to engage students aged 14-15 by providing hands-on, immersive experiences that give them a taste of the careers and opportunities available right here in their hometown.
“While this was a Council-led initiative supported by a steering committee, the IP@K pilot
was so successful because of the high level of school, community and industry engagement
so it is more than fitting that we are beginning this expansion of the project with a
wonderful and committed partner in Peirson Services and the enthusiastic involvement of
the region’s three largest high schools.”
Peirson Services CEO Madeleine Marais said the organisation was excited to partner with
Council on IP@B.
The success of the IP@B pilot program speaks volumes: participants reported increased
engagement, reduced truancy, and improved social skills.
This positive feedback highlights the program’s impact in addressing the unique challenges faced by young people, creating a foundation for lifelong learning and community involvement.
Well done, Louise Geal on your achievements and scholarship. After watching you work with young people, thought this award was given to an excellent recipient. Your compassion, kindness, and gentle approach goes above and beyond. Plus age should never be a barrier to anything we do. Congratulations, Lass.
