The artwork of fashion designer and artist Linda Jackson AO will feature in an exclusive exhibition at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery this summer.

As the temperature heats up this summer, slip into the cool of Bundaberg Regional Galleries to discover a slate of new exhibitions and events to entertain all season long.

New exhibitions, exciting events and engaging holiday activities are sprinkled throughout the Summer Program covering November to February.

Bundaberg Regional Council Arts, Heritage and Asset Management portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the program had many highlights to attract audiences.

“From our summer blockbuster exhibition with Linda Jackson, to the magical miniature world of Marlies Oakley, to Collection highlights in Childers, we have a great range of exhibitions on offer,” Cr Learmonth said.

“There’s also plenty of hands on activities to get involved in, including joining an alternate shopping community in Swap Shop, and festive season fun for everyone.”

Opening on Saturday 16 November, Opal Linda Jackson celebrates the long creative career of Australian artist and fashion designer, Linda Jackson AO, in an exhibition exclusive to Bundaberg.

The exhibition will feature designs from Linda’s more than four decades in the Australian fashion industry, exploring her unique take on art in fashion and how her love of opals inspired her throughout.

Cr Learmonth said the exhibition was an exploration into the juncture of art and fashion.

“Audiences have the chance to see up close iconic garments from the 1970s and ‘80s, when Linda was at the forefront of the changing Australian fashion scene in her creative partnership with Jenny Kee,” he said.

“Also on display will be Linda’s modern collaborations with Jordan Gogas and Romance is Born that have graced the pages of Vogue and runways of Australian Fashion Week.

“Guests at the Exclusive Preview can meet Linda and see her form new ensembles, to be paraded on models, created just for audiences on the night.”

Also opening in mid-November, celebrated local artist Marlies Oakley’s Papiergeschichten (Paper Stories) will draw audiences into an immersive world in miniature featuring thousands of intricately cut images in three dimensional scenes.

The artist’s sense of whimsy and play will be shared with gallery visitors at interactive Christmas Collage Bauble workshops, as part of Council’s Christmas program, on 27 November and 4 December.

“There’s so much to look forward to at Bundaberg Regional Galleries this summer, I encourage everyone to browse through the digital program,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Some events are ticketed, so get your bookings in quick and come join the fun in our Bundaberg and Childers galleries.”
