Time is running out to provide feedback on Bundaberg Regional Council’s plans to grow the suburb of Branyan over the next 10-plus years.
The Branyan Local Area Plan opened for public consultation on 27 September 2024 and closes on 1 November 2024.
Planning and Development Committee Chair Mayor Helen Blackburn said the community response to date had been terrific but Council was still hoping to receive more feedback.
“There has been a strong community response to the consultation of the Branyan Local Area Plan which has exceeded the level of engagement we’ve had on similar consultation processes in the past,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“It is wonderful to see this level of community interest and engagement in such an important plan which will help to shape the future infrastructure planning and development decisions Council makes within this rapidly growing area.
“We held drop-in sessions in early October which were hugely popular but our strategic planning team has also had many one-on-one meetings and enquiries from interested community members.
“The closing date is coming up quickly and we’d love even more feedback.”
What is the Branyan Local Area Plan?
Branyan has been identified as a major urban expansion area within Council’s Planning Scheme.
The Branyan Local Area Plan seeks to ensure future development is well-structured, with appropriate infrastructure such as roads, pathways, parks, stormwater systems, and water and sewer networks to meet future needs.
Currently, the locality is made up of a diverse mix of land uses, including rural, rural residential, urban residential, and industrial activities, which influence the sequencing of development and the provision of urban infrastructure.
The planning scheme policy will provide an interim framework for development assessments until formal amendments can be made.
