Refurbishment rolls ahead for skateparks

Skatepark refurbishment
Innes Park Skatepark and Burnett Heads Skatepark will undergo refurbishment, with work starting this week at Innes Park, after Council engaged an external contractor to assess the quality, condition and lifespan of the facilities.

Two of the region’s skateparks will soon be refurbished to help increase the lifespan of the popular recreational facilities, following an assessment undertaken by Bundaberg Regional Council.

Innes Park Skatepark and Burnett Heads Skatepark will undergo refurbishment, with work starting this week at Innes Park, after Council engaged an external contractor to assess the quality, condition and lifespan of the facilities.

Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the maintenance was necessary to invest in the life of the skateparks and what they offered to the community.

“Recreational facilities play an important role in the lifestyle of our communities, with skateparks being particularly valuable places for young people,” Cr Bartels said.

“Our skateparks not only provide another way to be physically active but they also allow for creative expression and social interaction among peers.

“This planned maintenance will help to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy using them for years to come.”

Each skatepark will be closed to the public while refurbishment of the existing area and equipment is underway.

Work is likely to be completed by the end of October, weather and unforeseen delays permitting, with signage in place to advise park users of the closure.
