The Ausbike program, designed to teach children important cycling skills in a fun and safe environment, will pedal into the Bundaberg Region on Saturday 5 October.
Ausbike focuses on providing families with the tools they need to make cycling a safe and enjoyable activity.
Tailored specifically for children aged 5 to 12 years old, the program encourages active lifestyles while empowering parents with the knowledge to guide their kids through early cycling experiences.
For children, the program offers resources that cover essential skills such as riding safely, understanding road rules, and basic bike maintenance.
Parents can access guides that explain how to support their child’s cycling journey, from choosing the right bike to helping them develop confidence on two wheels.
Supported by Bundaberg Cycling Club and Wide Bay Sports Academy, the Ausbike Program aims to help families embrace cycling as a sustainable, healthy, and enjoyable form of transport and recreation.
Wide Bay Sports Academy Executive Officer and spokesperson for Ausbike Scott Allison said the program was structured to allow families to participate at their own pace.
“We’re excited to bring the Ausbike Program to Bundaberg, offering kids aged 5-12 the chance to learn cycling skills that will stay with them for life,” Scott said.
“This program helps parents and kids alike, making cycling an activity the whole family can enjoy safely.”
Children can progress through skill-building exercises at home, while parents can rely on Ausbike’s expert tips and guidance to ensure their child’s success.
Parents are also encouraged to model safe riding habits and be actively involved in their child’s learning process.
Key resources available for parents through the Ausbike Program include:
