From inspirational leaders to ground-breaking tech implementations, Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service (WBHHS) has celebrated its remarkable staff at an Excellence Awards Night.

The awards celebrated the outstanding achievements of its workforce and reinforced its commitment to excellence in healthcare.

The event highlighted the dedication, innovation, and care displayed by employees and volunteers across the organisation, from clinical professionals to the often-unsung heroes in operational and administrative roles.

WBHHS Chief Executive Debbie Carroll praised the evening as an opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of all staff.

“Our people are the heart of everything we do and their unwavering commitment to delivering excellent healthcare across our region and rural communities is what makes WBHHS truly special,” Debbie said.

“This event not only recognises exceptional service but also underscores our belief that staff wellbeing and recognition are central to building a truly great place to work.”

Telehealth Coordinator Megan Cooper received the Embed Technology Award for leading innovative virtual models of care to improve patient access.

She presented compelling cases for telecare rheumatology and endocrinology services, resulting in reduced SOPD long waits and positive patient feedback.

Megan also developed a business case for the Tissue Analytics digital wound management pilot, approved for enhancing chronic wound care using AI.

Her initiatives have significantly increased access to specialist care, reduced travel needs, and improved patient outcomes.

Board Ambassador Accountability Award recipient Issac Maher, a Clinical Pharmacist, was recognised for his excellence through his conscientious patient care, professional communication, and dedication.

He consistently achieved optimal patient outcomes across various settings, providing reliable, thorough, and patient-centred pharmaceutical care.
