Deaf and hard of hearing school students in Bundaberg will have the chance to meet other young adults who know firsthand the challenges of growing up deaf.
The workshops will take place on 20 and 21 September where the group will focus on life goals and skills activities.
The workshops have been organised by Hear For You, a not-for-profit organisation which supports young people who are deaf and hard of hearing through programs and events.
According to the organisation, living in regional areas means opportunities to connect with other deaf or hard of hearing young people are rare, making the workshops even more valuable.
Sherri Brereton, Queensland manager for Hear For You, said teenagers always really enjoyed the chance to spend the day with others who understood the world in a similar way to how they did.
“It’s really great for them to spend the day with other kids who relate to their experience,” Sherri said.
“They can just be themselves.”
The workshops will provide a chance for families and parents to connect and will include, social connections, art activities, archery, ropes courses along with an escape room.
Registrations are open until 17th September and tickets can be covered by National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding or paid for by families.
