Spring program blossoms at Gallery

With the arrival of Spring, a new program of exciting exhibitions and intriguing events is ready to blossom at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery.

Opening Friday 13 September, the Spring program suite of exhibitions showcase the creative talents of Bundaberg Region artists in three new displays.

The Gathering, My Bothways Identity, and HERE + now 2024 will open with a free evening event all are welcome to attend.

Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts, Heritage and Asset Management portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the new program offered lots to look forward to.

“We have some great events on this spring, including a Milbi weaving garden that was so popular last year, and a school holiday workshop where children can create their own woven animal sculptures,” Cr Learmonth said.

“In October we have a Gelli Plate Printing workshop, so if you’ve ever wanted to give that a go, book in and be inspired.

“I’d encourage everyone to check out the program and see what the Gallery has on offer this season.”

What’s on display

The Gathering, timed to coincide with the Milbi Festival, highlights the work of contemporary First Nations artists that have been acquired for the Bundaberg Regional Galleries Collection over the past 25 years.

To be displayed in Gallery One and featuring artists including Dylan Sarra, Ron Hurley and Judith Inkamala, the exhibition represents the diversity of First Nations arts practice in Australia.

My Bothways Identity is a solo exhibition from Dr Pamela Croft in the Gallery’s Vault space.

A Kooma clan Euahlayi Nation descendent from Southwest Queensland now living in the Bundaberg Region, Pamela has practised as an independent visual artist since the mid-eighties.

Her artworks reflect her lived experience, guided by her Aboriginality and training in both Aboriginal and Western traditional art forms.

The highly anticipated annual survey of the region’s creative talent, HERE + now 2024 is the sixth iteration in the exhibition series.

Celebrating the region’s vibrant and evolving arts scene, the exhibition was curated by Gympie Regional Gallery Director Kate Tuart and features the work of 27 artists.

  1. I am looking forward to explore more of Bundaberg. I moved here nearly 2 yrs ago.
    Only thing missing are garbage bins, which is partly reason for so much garbage.
    I love my new/old home and the people of Bundaberg
