Bundaberg Bushwalking Club celebrates 40 years

Bundaberg Bushwalking Club 40th anniversary
Bundaberg Bushwalking Club vice president and acting-secretary Allison Webb shares the organisations history in celebration of the 40th anniversary.

For 40 years adventurous locals have been exploring the stunning landscapes of the region with the Bundaberg Bushwalking Club, which proudly marks its anniversary this September.

Bundaberg Bushwalking Club vice president and acting-secretary Allison Webb shares the organisations history in celebration of the anniversary.

Allison said in 1984 a community meeting was held to establish whether there was enough interest in forming a club.

“About 30 people attended and the first organised walk was to the Burnett River on the Bingera Cattle Station,” Allison said

“The group included grandparents, parents and children and this family spirit is what makes the club special.

“Many people join the club to get to know the area and meet others.

“There is also safety in numbers or learning from experienced walkers before launching out on your own.”

In 1984 a community meeting was held to establish the Bundaberg Bushwalking Club, and since then locals have been enjoying time together in the wonderful outdoors.

Allison said the Bundaberg Region provided a wonderful landscape to suit all levels of bushwalking experience.

“The local area provides opportunities for easier walks, but for more challenging walks we head inland,” she said.

“We rely on those with an adventuresome spirit and bush skills to navigate off the beaten track.

“A range of walks suitable for all ages and abilities are scheduled fortnightly, generally Sundays.

“Walks vary from half to full day, the occasional camping weekend or overnight trips.

“A social outing is held once a month, mainly enjoyed by those who can no longer walk a substantial distance, for members to catch up, have a picnic and maybe a short stroll.

“We look forward to welcoming new members and sharing the love of the great outdoors and all the benefits that nature has to offer.”

To celebrate 40 years, the Bundaberg Bushwalking Club is holding an anniversary lunch on Saturday 7 September at the East End Hotel, with all past and current members invited to attend to celebrate the occasion.

Community members who would like to share their stories or photos of their time in the club are also invited to contact Allison on 0448 846 084 or email info@bundabergbushwalkers.com. RSVP is also requested for numbers.
