Today is Wear It Purple Day, a national day held every year on the last Friday of August where supporters wear purple to celebrate the diversity and inclusion of young people from LGBTQIA+ communities.
Wear It Purple Day events are held in schools, workplaces and community organisations to shed light on the impacts of bullying and support youth who identify as sexually and/or gender diverse.
Wear It Purple is a student-run, not-for-profit organisation founded in 2010 by high school student Katherine Hudson and first-year university student Scott Williams in response to the many stories of ill-treatment of and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ individuals in schools.
Wear it Purple has become a key advocacy organisation in Australia, striving to “foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.”
The Rainbow Leadership Group
The Rainbow Leadership Group is a group of like-minded individuals passionate about providing greater visibility in the Bundaberg Region.
Their purpose is to provide a platform to advocate for and connect and collaborate with the rainbow community, while promoting their inclusion, feelings of safety, acceptance and sense of belonging.
The Rainbow Leadership Group aims to develop community driven action to achieve their goal of building more safe and brave spaces and being a voice for the rainbow community, while providing opportunities for connection and unity to bring positive changes to the region.
