A new nature-themed playground featuring a fort, slide, climbing equipment, double swing and balancing activities has just opened to the community as part of the Washpool Creek Naturalisation project.
Situated in Lathouras Court, Bundaberg South the playground has been designed with mostly natural materials to blend in seamlessly with its woodland surroundings.
Environment and Natural Areas portfolio spokesperson Cr Bartels said the space was in a central area and easily accessible to the community.
“The upgraded park is a perfect spot for families to spend quality time together, providing a range of new and improved facilities designed with kids in mind,” Cr Bartels said.
“It forms part of the Washpool Creek corridor in Bundaberg South which has recently been transformed from a concrete stormwater drain into a revitalised natural space, open for all to explore.”
The corridor pathway begins at Ford Street and winds its way through the suburb.
Multiple seated rest areas are scattered within the space along with bridges that cross over creek areas, and a log trail.
The path then crosses Hargreaves Street before reaching the new playground at Lathouras Court.
Placed strategically to take advantage of the natural shade from surrounding trees, the play area ensures a comfortable and safe environment for children to explore and have fun.
The space will also include a shelter with a picnic table and water bubbler, which will be installed in the coming months.
Cr Bartels said it was well worth a visit.
“The Washpool Creek Naturalisation project, a key initiative by Bundaberg Regional Council, aims to rejuvenate what was once a concrete channel and restore the natural beauty of the area,” he said.
“This effort not only enhances its ecological health but also creates a vibrant, engaging space for our community.
“Come and experience the new Washpool Creek Park and corridor with your family and make the most of this wonderful outdoor space!”
