Region gets a soaking with more rain to come

rain
Rainfall of up to 57 mm has been been recorded in the region in the 24 hours up to 8 am.

As an upper trough continues to impact most of Queensland, the Bureau of Meteorology is warning residents to expect plenty more rain today with between 35mm to 130mm forecast for the region.

The forecast includes the possibility of heavy falls and the chance of a thunderstorm before the trough begins to weaken from tomorrow.

The region currently falls within a widespread Flood Watch catchment, with localised river level rises and flash flooding likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall, and isolated minor to moderate riverine flooding possible.

According to the Bureau, the Flood Watch means people living or working along rivers and creeks should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings.

It comes after heavy falls impacted the region yesterday, with 43.6mm recorded at the Bundaberg Airport to 8 am today.

The rainfall is patchy across the region with falls ranging from 10mm to 70 mm. Bundaberg South recorded 57mm, Woodgate 33mm and Bargara 32mm while Nearum Road (near Gin Gin) recorded 71mm and Gin Gin 42mm.

The recent weather is a timely reminder of how quickly flash flooding can impact local roads so remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.

Bundaberg Regional Council makes every effort to advise residents of water over local roads and to erect warning signage where possible.

  1. Thank you; I am relying on this information as a Visitor from Adelaide, to see what is achievable for me on foot around Bundaberg . A bit difficult with all the heqvy rains. Cheers, Judy.

  2. Oh Ashley, at Buxton, we first had 30mm, yesterday morning a good 70mm, and this morning a miserly 30mm. the tanks are full, great. By the riverside is all slop and some fool no doubt will drive their big 4wd into it for a bit of fun. Anyway, Buxton does exist, even though we are far away from civilized Bundaberg. Hope you read that 1879 report I found written by the then PM Mr, Burkitt.

  3. It would help your readers when giving weather reports that you include the day and the date the report was given.
People are always have forward appointments and need to travel and when they read reports like this one you just issued with out date and time it just shows your lack of expertise in journalism.
    Sincerely Moss Hunt.
