COMPETITION

Members are asked to check the Competition draws and start arranging games by mutual agreement where possible. Competitions can now be played on a Sunday on QRI Bowls days. The next two QRI Sundays are Sunday 18 August 9 am & Sunday 15 September 9 am (Green will be cut & rolled). If arranging a game, please let the GD know.

Competition Call – Nil this week

The official Competition Call is always on the Club Noticeboard, so please check the board whenever you are at the Club.

Any issues with the above Competition Call, please see the Games Director – Keith Whalley. Members, please try to arrange any other Competition games by mutual agreement.

Just a reminder that when you are playing in Club Competitions, you must be in full Club uniform which includes shorts/trousers.

PENNANT

Burnett teams were involved in some very close games on Saturday, however, just fell short of the win. Division 1 lost by 1 shot overall to Woodgate, losing 58-59. Division 6 lost overall by 2 shots 36-38 to Woodgate and Division 4 lost by 3 shots overall 35-38 to Gin Gin. Well played as the results could have been reversed with a bit of luck. Division 3 were defeated by the strong Moore Park team 52-30. Thank you to all members for representing your Club during the Pennant season. Teams for next week will be posted on the Noticeboard on Tuesday. With many players absent and due to illness, there will be some changes to the teams for next week’s games.

Team Managers are reminded that selected teams CANNOT be changed without the approval of the Club selectors.

SOCIAL BOWLS EVENTS

Tuesday 6 August: Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12 pm, green fees paid by 12.30 pm for a 1 pm start.

Wednesday 7 August: ‘Scroungers’ Singles – due to the cold weather and a lack of numbers, Scroungers will be postponed until the weather warms up. 

Thursday 8 August: Night Bowls – bowls start at 6.30 pm, names in by 6 pm. Bowl under lights and enjoy a fun filled night with a chance at the ‘Pick the Joker’ Jackpot which will be $483+ this week. Visitors and those that want to try bowls for the first time will be made to feel very welcome.

Friday 9 August: Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12 pm, green fees paid by 12.30 pm for a 1 pm start.

Saturday 10 August: Pennant Round 3. Social bowls will be Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12pm, green fees paid by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

COMING EVENTS

Tuesday 13 August – 50/50 Day where 50 percent of the green fees for the day is returned as prizemoney. This will be a guaranteed minimum of $200.

Tuesday 27 August – $300 Open Triples.

CLUB NEWS

Club opening hours: Monday (Club closed), Tuesday 10am – 5.30pm, Wednesday 11.00am – 9.30pm, Thursday 2.00pm – 9.30pm, Friday 10.00am – 9.30pm, Saturday 10.00am – 6pm (10pm for Functions) Sunday Bowls Days 9am – 2.00pm.

The Goose Club raffle will be drawn on Friday night 9 August at 7 pm – Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased during the week from the Bar staff or on Friday night. There are 15 great prizes to be won – you need to be in it to win it! Proceeds from the raffle help to support your Club.

The Member’s Draw will also be held on Friday night 9^th August and stands at $150, so come along, have a meal and a few drinks with the chance to win some great cash and prizes.

There will be live entertainment on Friday 9 August presented by Bradz Rock N Rhythm and the following Friday 16 August entertainment will be provided by ‘The Other Bloke’. Members, Guests, and Visitors are always welcome.

A Courtesy Bus is now available on a Friday Night. The first pick up will be any time after 5pm and the final return trip will be 9 pm. To make a booking call 0413335767 after 4 pm and speak to the driver directly. (Bundaberg Suburban areas only). A small donation to help cover fuel costs would be appreciated. Woodgate Bowls

Tuesday 30 July Ladies Day: Social Triples with a game in the Ladies B Grade Singles: New bowler Neyta Heugh played the more experienced Daphne Brettell. Daphne took the win but good on you Neyta for having a go, the more you play, the more you, learn! Thanks to Gail Lenz who was the marker for the match.

Thursday 1 August Oyster and Fee’s Day: Today we had a game in the Ladies B grade singles, a game in the Open Ladies Consistency and a Men’s Triples Competition game as well as our usual paddle pop draw triples or pairs. Ladies B Greade Singles resulted in a win to Judy Stanley over Raeleen Cahill, with Barb Clarke marking the card. Ladies Open Consistency resulted in a win to Jacquie Rogerson over Michelle Wood with Gail Lenz marking the card.

Saturday 3 August: Today our Men’s Penant Teams, Division one and six made us all proud both having hard fought wins against Burnett. Division one took it right down to the wire securing a win by the slenderest of margins……one! Division six had a win by three.

Sunday 4 August: Big day today….huge day the annual  Barkala Cup  challenge between the local Woodgate bowlers and our southern friends who come to stay in the Caravan Park. Woodgate took the cup again this year winning 11 to 5 rinks with the points tally much closer 332/308. Lots of prize money thanks to our sponsor the NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park (formally Barkala Caravan Park). We thank them for their continued support!
