Thursday Night 25^th July: Winners: Kingsley & Col. Runners Up: Kate & Kathleen. Sportspeople: John Snr & Kevin. The ‘Pick the Joker’ Jackpot was not won and will now be at $+465 for next Thursday.

Friday 26^th July: Winners: Harry Schneider, Ted Barker. Sportsman: P Hunter, Kerry Innes.

Saturday 20^th July: No play due to Pennant.

COMPETITION

Members are asked to check the Competition draws and start arranging games by mutual agreement where possible. Competitions can now be played on a Sunday on QRI Bowls days. The next two QRI Sundays are Sunday 4^th August 9.00am & Sunday 18^th August 9.00am (Green will be cut & rolled). If arranging a game, please let the GD know.

The official Competition Call is always on the Club Noticeboard, so please check the board whenever you are at the Club.

Any issues with the above Competition Call, please see the Games Director – Keith Whalley. Members, please try to arrange any other Competition games by mutual agreement.

Just a reminder that when you are playing in Club Competitions, you must be in full Club uniform which includes shorts/trousers.

Results for Pennant Round 1: Division 1: Bargara def Burnett 66-55 with Burnett winning 2 rinks to 1. Division 3: Burnett Drew with Bundaberg 36-36 winning on 1 rink. Division 4: Isis def Burnett 44-30 with Burnett winning 1 rink. Division 6: Burnett def Bargara 39-36 winning 1 rink. Thank you to all members that played Pennant, your effort and commitment is greatly appreciated.

SOCIAL BOWLS EVENTS

Wednesday 31^st July: ‘Scroungers’ Singles – due to the cold weather and a lack of numbers, Scroungers will be postponed until the weather warms up. 

Thursday 1^st August: Night Bowls – bowls start at 6.30pm, names in by 6pm. Bowl under lights and enjoy a fun filled night with a chance at the ‘Pick the Joker’ Jackpot which will be $465+ this week. Visitors and those that want to try bowls for the first time will be made to feel very welcome.

Friday 2^nd August: Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12pm, green fees paid by 12.30pm for a 1 pm start.

Saturday 3^rd August: Pennant Round 2. Social bowls will be Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12pm, green fees paid by 12.30pm for a 1 pm start.

COMING EVENTS

Tuesday 13^th August – 50/50 Day where 50 percent of the green fees for the day is returned as prizemoney. This will be a guaranteed minimum of $200.

CLUB NEWS 

Club opening hours: Monday (Club closed), Tuesday 10am – 5.30pm, Wednesday 11.00am – 9.30pm, Thursday 2.00pm – 9.30pm, Friday 10.00am – 9.30pm, Saturday 10.00am – 6pm (10pm for Functions) Sunday Bowls Days 9am – 2.00pm.

The Goose Club raffle will be drawn on Friday night 2^nd August at 7pm – Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased during the week from the Bar staff or on Friday night. There are 15 great prizes to be won – you need to be in it to win it! Proceeds from the raffle help to support your Club.

The Member’s Draw will also be held on Friday night 2^nd August and stands at $150, so come along, have a meal and a few drinks with the chance to win some great cash and prizes.

There will be live entertainment on Friday 2^nd August presented by ‘The Other Bloke’ and the following Friday 9^th August entertainment will be provided by Bradz Rock N Rhythm. Members, Guests, and Visitors are always welcome.

A Courtesy Bus is now available on a Friday Night. The first pick up will be any time after 5pm and the final return trip will be 9pm. To make a booking call 0413335767 after 4pm and speak to the driver directly. (Bundaberg Suburban areas only). A small donation to help cover fuel costs would be appreciated. Mens Day: 78 men took to out greens today in perfect Woodgate weather, much warmer than last week and that wild wind has blown itself away!

As well as our usual fun social bowls we had a couple of competition games thrown in for good measure!

Ladies B grade singles game: Judy Stanley had a win over Barb Clarke with Daphne Brettell marking the card. Great to see our new bowler Barb, entering the competitions, it’s the way to learn and improve your game.

Lots of excitement out on our green today, a game in the Ladies Open Consistency between Gail Lenz and Rhonda Byrnes with Daphne Brettell as the marker.

The final score was 126/119 to Gail after a very hard fought game played in the true spirit of good sportsmanship!

Saturday 27.07.2024: The big news for the day was our men having a win against the Across the Waves Club in the Division One Pennant Competition played here on our home green at Woodgate.

ATW went into this match as clear favourites and I have to tell you in the early stages of the match a sound beating  looked like the obvious conclusion for our team!

However never discount the fighting spirit of our Woodgate Men, they may not be in their first flush of youth but they certainly have the fighting spirit alive and well within them!

Mind you ATW played magnificent bowls but our men rose to the occasion and answered the challenge with some amazing bowls of their own!

Possibly the biggest crowd of supporters I’ve seen in ages were treated to an afternoon to remember and to be talked about over a beverage or three for some time!

We Woodgate supporters were so proud of our men, the way you played and conducted yourselves during the match.

Thank you to ATW for coming to Woodgate and challenging our men into showing us all what they are made of!

Special thanks to Archie Bishop who was our Umpire for the day.

Division six men played at ATW grounds and also had a win.

Battle of the Codes: NRL versus AFL, with locals and visitors alike all supporting their chosen form of League we have our own Woodgate battle of the codes!

This year AFL took the honours (sadly) but I did see a couple of our local bowlers playing for the southern code!
