ARIA award-winning artist Katie Noonan will be touring with the Australian Vocal Ensemble (AVÉ) to Bundaberg and will include a performance and workshop at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre on Friday 26 July.
AVÉ’s latest album, Thought is Surrounded by a Halo, is a collection of 10 compositions that bring Gwen Harwood’s poetry to life through song.
As AVÉ’s artistic director, Katie said she was thrilled to introduce the latest album and commissioning project.
“Our journey into the heart of vocal expression has revealed how our voices can mirror the myriad of sentiments and stories embedded in Harwood’s work,” Katie said.
“Each composer featured on this album has approached Harwood’s texts with their own distinct style and vision, creating a unique soundscape that we have explored together.
“These compositions have become living interpretations that celebrate Australian music and poetry; we couldn’t be more proud to bring them to life.
“Gwen Harwood is an inspiring woman in her own right and someone I’ve personally admired for being a ground-breaking advocate at a time when women’s words were rarely published.”
AVE workshops
In addition to celebrating the album release, AVÉ is dedicated to engaging with regional communities through a series of workshops and performances.
These events will provide a platform for collaborative opportunities and foster community connections through Australian Art Music.
During the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to work directly with AVÉ and learn valuable techniques to enhance their vocal performance in choral music.
The workshops will cover various aspects, including ensemble sound, vocal tuning, vocal and body warm ups, vocal techniques and insights into vocal chamber music.
They are designed to ensure everyone can be involved in the performance regardless of singing level and registrations are now open here.
