Well, it has been a fantastic week of weather this past week with just the odd shower of rain but generally it has been very mild in terms of temperature, with mostly sunny skies and light winds.
Looking ahead to the coming days and we look set for more of the same conditions with light to moderate winds, mostly sunny skies and more mild temperatures – although it will start to get a little chilly again by Sunday/Monday.
Today’s winds will be from the S/SW at only around 5 to 10 knots before they shift late this afternoon to be more from the NE.
Tomorrow will then bring SW to S/SW winds at around 10 knots, before Sunday brings slightly stronger S/SW winds at 10 to 15 knots through the morning – but they will ease back to be only 5 to 10 knots by the afternoon.
Swimming
Just like the weather, the swimming conditions have been fantastic throughout this entire week, with mostly calm and mild conditions persisting across all beaches.
Now, in great news for swimmers, the forecast suggests that we should see more of the same over the coming days – with the light to moderate and most offshore winds set to ensure the ocean remains mostly mild and calm again for the next few days.
The best time for swimmers will be either through the early mornings (but it will be low tide) or again from late morning through to early to mid-afternoon when the tide is higher and the temperature a little warmer.
All beaches should have mostly mild swimming conditions across the coming days, particularly while the winds remain mostly offshore.
Please check with the lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages and most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!
Weekdays: 9 am to 5 pm at Agnes Water ONLY
Saturday and Sunday: 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Water ONLY
Surfing
This past week has seen a great run of super clean and super fun waves across almost all beaches in the local region, with the light winds and the continual run of swell ensuring some fun for everyone!
Now, the wave heights have been gradually dropping since about Thursday but there are still small, clean, fun waves about the local beaches – and these should continue through the coming days as well.
With the wave heights dropping, these waves over the coming days may be better suited to the long boards and SUP’s but keep an eye on conditions as per usual.
Best spots are likely to be Agnes Water, Nielson Park Beach, Mon Repos and Moore Park Beach but don’t discount Kelly’s Beach and even Elliott Heads.
For the SUP and ocean ski paddlers chasing a downwind paddle, the wind forecast is not looking promising but maybe Sunday morning could throw up enough for a south to north run.
For those chasing a more relaxed and gentle paddle though, the beaches should be great for this over the coming days – and maybe even some clean, fun waves to enjoy too.
Events
Good luck to local surf lifesavers that will be racing this weekend at the 2024 QLD State Pool Rescue Championships on the Gold Coast.
