Local basketball fans who missed out on securing tickets to cheer on the Autobarn Bundy Bulls in this weekend’s Queensland State League 2 grand final will get a second chance thanks to a change of location.

Bundaberg Regional Council has come on board to accommodate the grand final game at Bundaberg Multiplex after tickets for the highly anticipated event, originally to be held at the local arena, sold out in just nine minutes.

It comes after a nail-biting semi-final held last weekend when the Bulls landed a spectacular victory over Sunshine Coast Phoenix, finishing 86-80.

They will now prepare to battle it out against the North Gold Coast Seahawks on home turf, in Bundaberg, for the first time ever.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said Council was proud to support local sport and by facilitating the use of the Multiplex, even more basketball fans would have the opportunity to relish in the excitement of the first hometown grand final.

“We want to ensure more locals can enjoy watching the Bulls compete on home soil,” she said.

“This is the first time that the Queensland State League has held a grand final here in the Bundaberg Region and its evident that the community is eager to show its support.

“It’s going to be great event for tourism, for Bundaberg and for the sport as a whole.”

Bundaberg Basketball president Darren Mortensen said the team had worked hard and it was fantastic to see the community show so much support and pride in them.

“This is the first time Bundaberg has made it to the grand final for the Queensland State League and we are very excited to be able to bring this to Bundaberg,” Darren said.

“I am very proud of the team for their dedication and hard work this season.”

Darren thanked Council for its support and he reiterated it was extraordinary to see the game sell out so fast.

“We were holding the game at our home stadium, however the tickets sold
out in under nine minutes,” Darren said.

“The team are pumped and ready to give Bundaberg a great show.

“We would like to encourage Bundaberg to support this event, which is being played this Saturday 7 pm at the Multiplex, right here in Bundaberg.”
