Woodgate Bowls
Tuesday 2 July: Who said Representative Lady Bowlers weren’t a determined bunch, today they played the Bundaberg District Champion of Champions Pairs in what can only be described as ‘trying’ conditions! Read rain, cold and to be honest miserable weather.
Social bowls was called off due to rain but the Champion of Champions soldiered on! The mornings games saw Bargara winning against ATW on an eventual forfeit.Gin Gin winning against Brother’s again on a forfeit. The afternoons games saw Bundaberg Club having a win over Burnett 19/16.
Moore Park having a win over Gin Gin and our own Jane and Fiona having a win for Woodgate over Elliott Heads 19/17. Despite the weather there were some good bowls played and will be again tomorrow for the semifinal and final!
Semifinals to be played in the morning will see Bargara play Bundaberg and Woodgate play Moore Park. The two winners will play the final in the afternoon, should be some great bowls played so rug up and come down and support our Ladies!
Wednesday 3 July: Much better day weather wise for a game of bowls, bit of a cool breeze but the sun is out and the rain has gone. In the morning we had the semi finals of the Champion of Champions Ladies District Pairs. The strong Bargara team of Adele Pershouse (sk) and Connie Rixon had a win over Bundaberg Marcia Nicol (sk) and Kerry Mitchell.
Woodgate’s team of Fiona Dowling (sk) and Jane Herd-Evans had a win over Moore Parks Helen Morton (sk) and Tanya Adams. The final was played in the afternoon and what a game it was! The Woodgate Ladies started slowly and were down 4/13 on end 13.
A 3 on end 14 took the score to 7/13, another 3 on end 15 and the score sat at 10/13. End 16 a 2 and end 17 a 1 evened the score at 13 all. What a game, however the even score caused Bargara to dig their heals in scoring a 1, then a 3, another 3 and a 1 to take the game 20/13.
Fiona and Jane played very well keeping a lot of ends to only one point against the more experienced Bargara players. Congratulations to all players throughout the competition, we here at Woodgate are particularly proud of our girls Fiona and Jane for the way they played and conducted themselves while representing us all. Special thanks to Jess Cannon who stood as Umpire for the day.
