The Bundaberg Botanic Gardens playground will close for eight weeks to undergo a series of refurbishments aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.
The playground will remain open until the end of the school holidays before closing on Monday 8 July Bundaberg Regional Council will undertake a range of work to the site, including improving play areas, drainage, cleaning and general maintenance.
Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said once the work was complete, there would be plenty of benefits for all.
“These upgrades are designed to improve access, safety, and enjoyment for all visitors while ensuring the sustainability of the popular space,” he said.
The refurbishment will focus on several areas, including;
- Enhanced drainage systems will be installed to manage water flow more effectively, preventing waterlogging and ensuring the gardens remain accessible even after heavy rains.
- Some play areas will be reconfigured to improve accessibility and enjoyment for children of all abilities.
- Existing timber play elements will be restored, ensuring they remain safe and attractive.
- Sand will be replaced with mulch in play areas, creating a softer and safer surface for children to enjoy.
- The mulched area under the iconic fig tree will be enlarged to promote the tree’s health and longevity.
- Shade sails, shelters, furniture, and equipment will be thoroughly cleaned.
“These improvements are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing public spaces for the community,” Cr Bartels said.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during the closure period and we trust these upgrades will significantly enhance the experience for everyone.”
