The long history of the Childers Visual Arts Group will be celebrated in a special retrospective exhibition at Childers Arts Space.
Opening on Saturday 20 July, Creation Station: A Retrospective reflects on the group which encapsulates the true essence of artist collectives through creative learning, mentoring, camaraderie, and a passion for art.
Started over 20 years ago in Alice McLaughlin’s garden at Apple Tree Creek, the Childers Visual Arts Group is also active during of the Childers Festival, with its members sharing their love of creativity through the popular Arts in the Park event.
For the exhibition, each artist nominated an artwork that reflected their creative journey, with the final selection curated by Bundaberg Regional Galleries.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts, Heritage and Asset Management portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the exhibition was an indication of the strength and diversity of the regional arts community.
“There is a wonderfully vibrant arts community in Childers and this exhibition highlights the long contribution of the Childers Visual Arts Group,” Cr Learmonth said.
“The exhibition has been timed to coincide with the Childers Festival, honouring the group’s ongoing commitment and its members dedication to sharing their passion with locals and visitors.”
