Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the region held a strong position in the bioeconomy sector due to its robust agricultural and manufacturing industries.

Industry leaders and innovators will converge at the Bundaberg Multiplex and Convention Centre in September for the fifth annual Bundaberg Bioeconomy Conference.

As the region gears up for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, the event presents an opportunity to explore sustainable solutions and leverage the local bioeconomy to minimise the environmental impact of the upcoming games.

Natural Resources and Environment portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the region held a strong position in the bioeconomy sector due to its robust agricultural and manufacturing industries.

“Our region has a rich history in creating products that repurpose and commercialise waste streams and drive innovation,” he said.

“With the Brisbane 2032 Olympics on the horizon, the Bundaberg Bioeconomy Conference presents a unique opportunity for the region to showcase its potential and contribute to a Olympic Games.

“The conference will enable us to demonstrate how Bundaberg can play a pivotal role in supporting those sustainability goals.”

Cr Bartels said by aligning with the goals of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, the Bundaberg Region could also enhance its reputation and economic prospects, potentially leading to increased tourism, new business opportunities, and long-term growth.

“The conference will benefit Bundaberg by attracting investment, fostering collaboration among local businesses, and promoting the region as a leader in sustainable practices,” he said.
