In a boost for local families, Bundaberg Disability Resource Centre and Toy Library has received funding support from Bundaberg Regional Council.
More than $36,600 in the Partnerships and Sponsorships Grant Program Round 3 was endorsed by Council during the Ordinary Meeting in May, which included $11,862 in funding to the Bundaberg Disability Resource Centre and Toy Library.
Bundaberg Disability Resource Centre and Toy Library co-ordinator Melissa Avery said the much-needed funding would provide more than just upgraded resources, but also a community event.
“The funding will be used for our Play Day event, Tuesday 16 July 9:30am–noon, as well as for purchasing new trikes and ride-ons,” Melissa said.
“The Play Day is a fun event for families of young children to enjoy active play together and experience some of our toys and resources that are available for borrowing for our members.
“The funding also provides staff time for supporting families of Bundaberg through the Toy Library Service and assists with some operating costs.”
Melissa said local families had access to a number of services at the toy library.
“Our toy library service benefits local families by offering toys that match their developmental stages and evolving interests,” she said.
“Borrowing and returning toys saves families money and space.
“We also have a large range of specialised equipment and resources to support therapy and early intervention programs.”
She said the funding from Council’s Partnerships and Sponsorships Grant would also provide the centre the opportunity to purchase new equipment.
“Our trike collection is quite popular, but aging,” Melissa said.
“This (grant) will fund buying new trikes and ride-ons and will increase the opportunities for our members to borrow trikes for their children.”
Toy library a invaluable resource
Community Liveability, Sport and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Cr Carmen McEneany said it was fantastic to see not just local programs but also families supported by Council’s Partnership and Sponsorship Grant funding.
“Bundaberg Toy Library is an invaluable resource for our community,” Cr McEneany said.
“Council is pleased to be able to provide support to local families, with the assistance to the local not-for-profit organisation, through the community grant.
“It will allow them to expand their services and reach even more families, providing essential tools and support for early childhood development.”
Melissa said the local organisation was grateful for ongoing support.
“Thanks to Bundaberg Regional Council for their continued support of our service,” she said.
“(It) is quite easy to apply for a Bundaberg Regional Council grant.
“I would encourage other local organisations to apply to help fund their projects too.”
