The hit Australian TV series Mother and Son is set to grace the Bundaberg Playhouse stage in May.

The hilarious and poignant play will be directed by brother and sister duo Paul Burrell and Tricia Garson.

Paul said the play touches on issues most families can relate to.

“The TV show of ‘Mother And Son’ sharply explored the dysfunctional family relationship
of an ageing parent with increasing memory loss, and her faithful but long-suffering son
helping to take care of her,” Paul said.

“The stage play continues on with these themes but does it in a way that audience members will be touched by.”

Tricia said the play is as beautifully done as the TV series.

“The original sitcom starred Ruth Cracknell as Maggie and Garry McDonald as Arthur,” Tricia said.

“Maggie and Arthur’s story was taken from screen to stage by its creator Geoffrey Atherden
in 2014 – reinvigorating an Australian icon for new audiences and long-time fans alike.

“It is based in the 2000’s so has lots of themes that audiences will recognize, like telemarketers, mobile phones and social media”.

The cast includes Maggie: Sherry Barnes, Arthur: Chris Dittman, Robert: Phil Fresta, Liz: Traci Thornton, Anita: Meg Eliason, Monica: Trish Mears, Steve: Ian Whiteley, Male voice: Des Gellert.
