The local branch of international non-profit organisation University of the Third Age (U3A) will be hosting its 2024 open day at Avenell Heights Community Hall on 16 January from 9 am to 11 am.
The theme for the open day is Time to Explore and offers community members the opportunity to meet U3A tutors as well as investigate the course program and find out more about membership with no obligation to join.
The organisation functions under the philosophy of ‘learning for the joy of learning’ with U3A Bundaberg offering more than 50 different courses each term aimed at keeping the mind and body active, including craft, sport, music, languages and computing.
U3A Bundaberg president Bev Hoult said membership opened the door for locals to make friends and learn something new.
“Our tutors are people who have skills, experience and insights into a range of subjects,” she said.
“A tutor in one class is likely to be a student in another one.”
The group currently has over 600 members with membership costing $40 for the year.
“Subject to availability, members can join as many classes and activities as they wish,” Bev said.
“Membership is open to all persons aged 18 and over.”
