Honoured and surprised was David Field’s reaction when told he was awarded Queensland Touch Football’s Volunteer of the Year recently.
For the past 32 years David has volunteered for Queensland Touch Football in various roles.
He has provided services as Regional Referee Director, referee, coach, and held various club and association management positions.
At a local level, he is the President of the Bundaberg Touch Association.
Dave is also a Board Member for Central Queensland Touch Football and currently holds the position of the Queensland Touch Football Director of Referees, held since 2007.
He has been responsible for promoting, fostering and improving the quality of touch football refereeing at all levels within the state.
David said he was surprised when told of his nomination as he was not one to seek recognition for his volunteer roles.
“I’m honoured to receive the award particularly knowing the many other volunteers who have dedicated their time to support their club or association,” Dave said.
“Some of the most rewarding experiences I’ve gained from my volunteer work include having a better connection to not just the touch football community but the community in general.
“Working with other volunteers has also allowed me to gain a range of skills and knowledge that I have been able to pass on to other volunteers.”
