Christine Anu, a proud Torres Strait Islander, has had a long and illustrious career in the Australian music industry.
She is renowned for hits like My Island Home and Party, which have become anthems of the nation.
With 17 ARIA nominations, including the APRA AMCOS award-winning My Island Home and her platinum album Stylin’ Up, she has one of the country’s most enduring and recognisable voices.
Christine said she was looking forward to returning to the Bundaberg Region and she was excited to be taking part in such a significant event, with local performers including River Nations.
“It’s not every day you get to visit a beautiful region like Bundaberg – I am stoked to return,” she said.
“I’m really ecstatic about sharing the stage with some local performers and being on Country and meeting the elders.
“I love what the Milbi Festival is about with the start of turtle season – turtles are one of my favourite animals, so I am truly excited.”
Her acclaimed 27-year career spans across all forms of media including music, theatre, dance, film, television, radio, children’s entertainment, and one of the most influential keynote speakers.
Christine is proud of her Torres Strait Islander heritage and said she was excited to share the Bundaberg stage with her daughter Zipporah Corser-Anu.
“There’s a natural beauty about this festival which focuses on Indigenous heritage of the region,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to doing what I do best and sharing my singing and songs with people who love them.
“I will be on stage with guitarist Raymund (Shek) and my 21-year-old daughter Zipporah, she has a beautiful voice, so I am looking forward to singing together in this spectacular location.
“I’m also looking forward to witnessing the handover ceremony with the message stick.
“There’s something special about combining culture and arts with this welcome home.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to bring all the community together.”
