Three new Police Liaison Officers have joined the Queensland Police Service in the Bundaberg Region.

The First Nations and Pacific Islander Liaison Officers will strengthen ties within the community.

Hami is a proud Ngāpuhi / Ngāi Tahu Maori man from New Zealand, who has been living in Australia since 1986.

His sporting interests are outrigging, rugby league, touch football, boxing and weight training.

Over the years he has worked in various positions and industries, largely within the business, hospitality, security and training sectors.

Hami brings a strong understanding of communication to this role and the ability to work cohesively within various community groups and organisations.

Having worked in both the city and regional areas, PLO Shelford said he finds regional areas far more rewarding as it gives him the opportunity to build strong relationships within the local communities and groups.

First Nations Police Liaison Officer Geteno George

Geteno is a proud Wakka Wakka man from Gayndah, who has been living in Bundaberg since 2012.

Over the years he has worked in various positions in health, more recently as an Advanced Health Worker in mental health.

Geteno brings a strong understanding of communication to his role and the ability to work cohesively within First Nations community groups and organisations.

Geteno said he is looking forward to his new role as it will give him the opportunity to continue building strong connections within the community of Bundaberg and surrounding districts.

“I enjoy working with the community, whether it be at community events, schools or during day-to-day liaison duties,” Geteno said.

His interests are rugby league, basketball, camping and spending time with family.

First Nations Police Liaison Officer Shawn Hill

Shawn is a proud Kalkadoon man from Mt Isa, who has been living in Bundaberg for the past 12 years.

His sporting interests are rugby league, touch football, boxing and oztag.

Over the years he has worked in various roles within communities and with troubled and vulnerable youth and families.

What he brings to his role is a strong understanding of community needs, especially our youth and families.

He also has the ability to work with and alongside other stakeholders and community organisations to provide a safe and positive outcome for all.

Shawn is looking forward to working with our First Nations families, primary and secondary school students and the wider community.

“Working within the community and putting smiles on faces amongst our kids is very rewarding,” Shawn said.
