Bundaberg SES are looking for new members to join in preparation for the wet weather season in the region.

Bundaberg Regional SES has put out the call for new members as the unit begins preparations for the coming storm season.

As part of the recruitment drive, Bundaberg Regional SES will hold its first New Recruit Training Weekend for new members from units across the region.

The local training weekend was developed by Bundaberg Regional SES Unit Local Controller Keiran Galey to provide new members with a supportive face-to-face environment in which to commence their initial training.

The unit hopes the training weekend will streamline the process of new member induction and probation, freeing up members to focus on building skills and operational capabilities through their regular training.

Bundaberg Regional SES Unit Acting Deputy Local Controller Annette Farrar said the new recruits would cover their three mandatory courses during the Saturday program, with more practical hands-on training on the Sunday.

“We will teach new recruits to use and communicate over radios and how to use TAMs, the electronic platform used to record jobs received by the SES from start to finish,” she said.

“Over time, we hope to further expand the program to incorporate additional skills and foundation training in storm damage operations.

“Attending this weekend provides new recruits the opportunity to meet Unit Executives, the chance to ask questions and contributes to fostering an inclusive team environment.”

The Bundaberg Regional SES Unit is made up of seven groups operating across the Bundaberg Region with groups located in Woodgate, Childers, Elliott Heads, Moore Park Beach, Gin Gin, Bargara, and Bundaberg.

New recruits are welcome at all the local groups that make up the Bundaberg Regional SES Unit.

To join the SES applicants must be at least 16 years of age, with anyone over 18 is required to hold a current Blue Card and undergo a criminal history check as part of the application process.

The SES offers a wide range of experiences and training opportunities to prepare volunteers with the skills required to deliver a co-ordinated response to emergencies and natural disaster situations.

The New Recruit Training weekend will be held at the Bundaberg SES facility, Kendalls Road Bundaberg, on 23-24 September 2023.

Anyone interested in finding out more about joining the SES is encouraged to contact the Bundaberg Regional SES Unit on its Facebook page.
