Oporto Bundaberg edges closer to opening

Bundaberg locals are only a few weeks away from tantalising their tastebuds with Portuguese-style flame-grilled chicken as Oporto edges closer to opening.

Serving up the fiery Portuguese chicken favourites, Oporto will have a long-awaited welcome as it is set to open its doors in Bundaberg in August.

Oporto Stores Queensland State Manager Deborah Manietta said the Bundaberg restaurant would be located on Takalvan Street and would include a drive through and indoor dining area.

She said she was excited to bring the eatery to town.

“We think regional Queensland communities are being neglected and stuck with the same old food options,” Deborah said.

“We want to bring them something new and vibrant, flavoursome and good for the soul.

“Bundy is a regional ‘hub’ where outer communities can come together as well, so we couldn’t think of a better place to set up the next Oporto than Bundaberg!”

Deborah said opening Oporto locally would be beneficial to economic growth by providing a boost to employment in the Bundaberg Region with between 30 and 35 jobs created.

She said Oporto would offer a healthier alternative to fast food and would be serving up popular favourite Oporto menu items like the iconic Bondi Burger.

“Our founder, Antonio, first started serving up delicious Portuguese style flame grilled chicken and his original chilli sauce back in 1986 from a small chicken shop in North Bondi,” Deborah said.

“We have been making this legendary sauce ever since.

“You will find this on our infamous Bondi Burger!”

Deborah said they were excited to open in the Bundaberg Region as regional areas became a priority, with new sites also planned for Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, Townsville, and Cairns in the next three to five years.

Oporto’s Bundaberg recruitment drive will take place in the coming weeks.
