OMG! Decadent Donuts has opened its door in Bundaberg CBD offering fresh, hot and flavoursome treats to the community.
Peter and Kelly Blake took on the franchise as a pop-up market marquee in August last year and after the overwhelming response from the community they saw the opportunity to open a shop front.
The delicious hot, fresh donuts cooked in store are dusted in one of 13 unique handcrafted flavours, made from local Bundaberg Sugar and Australian fruits, spices and even vegetables.
On the menu at OMG! Decadent Donuts the variety of flavours include coffee, cinnamon, choc mint, lemon, beetroot, berry and pine-lime, to name a few.
“In August we started covering all of the Bundaberg Region and it’s actually been full on,” Kelly said.
“If I had a dollar for every time somebody asked where the shop was? I’d be rich!
“So that’s why we thought we better get a shop.”
OMG! Decadent Donuts celebrated a soft opening yesterday at their new store on Barolin Street.
Kelly said their light, airy and sweet treats were a little different to regular hot donuts, as there was a focus to ensure the donuts could be enjoyed by people with dietary requirements, food intolerances or food allergies.
“Our donuts are Coeliac Australia accredited and they are Vegan Australia certified,” she said.
“We only cook donuts here, so there’s no cross contamination.
“Because people who are coeliac, like myself, that’s one of the biggest concerns when you eat out – something may be gluten free, but it’s cooked in the same fryer as the battered stuff, so unfortunately it’s not.”
OMG! Decadent Donuts has 70 franchises across Australia with Peter and Kelly’s the first to open in the Bundaberg Region.
With a background in community services, Kelly said stepping into a hospitality role was new to both her and Peter.
“I tried the donuts when we were living in Brisbane and I was pleasantly surprised how good they were for gluten free,” she said.
“So, when we moved back home to Bundaberg, we decided we’d share them with the community.
“Community is important to us, that’s also why we do our fundraising here as well.”
OMG! Decadent Donuts is open Tuesday to Saturday at 12C Barolin Street, Bundaberg.
