Adventure is on the cards for Bundaberg’s Rick Shervey, his wife Marina and their mates as their locally produced television series Exploring Off The Grid airs on Channel 10 on 1 January.
Proving no track, distance or environment is too hard to tackle Rick and his team load up three expedition vehicles and set off for four weeks of offgrid camping, boating and touring in buggies.
Rick and Marina own and operate Solar ’N’ Sat, Shervey Solar Pumps, Shervey Signs and Shervey Media locally.
Specialising in fitting solar power and lithium battery systems to recreational vehicles, Rick said the current market had been extremely busy and since establishing in 2006 the business had grown substantially.
“We went off the grid, camping, fishing, exploring and all that sort of stuff up to Cape York in August.”
Rick said after producing television commercials locally for several years, the business branched out with Exploring Off The Grid to promote Solar N Sat and the Bundaberg Region.
“We started Exploring Off The Grid to help promote our business Solar N Sat, but have also been able to help a few other brands along the way,” he said.
“Solar N Sat has been established since 2006 after we owned a rural property that had no power and I started with a small solar system, and it started from there.
“It’s sort of been a natural progression to grow to the size we have become.
“Now to have a television show that’s produced with everything done here in Bundy – it’s definitely good for the whole region.”
Beginning in Gin Gin, Solar N Sat has now blossomed to be a leader in its field, offering media, signage and solar water pumping services with the same expert knowledge associated with the Solar N Sat name.
Rick said owning and operating a family business in the Bundaberg Region definitely had its perks.
“The lifestyle you get here definitely outweighs any of the challenges,” he said.
The 10-part television series Exploring Off The Grid will air on Channel 10 nationally on 1 January.

Hi just watching this week’s episode 24 January 2023 and came in on a Solar hot water unit segment.
Can you please advise what the brand was and if it would be suitable for our 2003 Benz Sprinter.. . No shower as we now use a bucket and use warm water from our old solar pockets that you hang up !!!!!!
We know we won’t get up to the Top in it but it does what we need.
