The 150th Anniversary of the Mount Perry Races was held recently with Bundaberg 4WD Club members attending this once-a-year event.
The club made a weekend of it out at the spectacularly located base camp at the track, with recent rains turning the location into a lush green haven for those wanting a great day at the races.
On site bookies were on hand to take the eager punters hard earned cash as they bet on the local and away races that were beamed into the main betting area.
Club members volunteered to help unload the all important supply truck before getting their race attire on. Festivities scheduled were all go with the “Fashions of The Field” being one of the highlights.
The theme for this year was ‘Bold and Gold ‘and the high-class attire on show was a credit to all that attended.
The popular “Jocks Plate “and “Fillies Dash” had the crowd lined up along the track to get a close look at the field and this year included the “Kids Scamper” as well. Every year these events draw a multitude of entries and its great to see so many attempt to run the 100 meters.
Mark Lavender kicked off the afternoon’s musical entertainment with the crowd up on their feet to dance along to his tuneful talent into the night.
It was great to see so many people had camped for the weekend and support the race club and the trainers that come from far and wide put their horses through their paces.
The Bundaberg 4WD club members organised a drive out to a local private property on the Sunday morning to check out the tracks on offer before packing up and heading home.
Perfect weather, a great location and the excellent vibe of a country race day will bring people back again next year for a bigger and better event, it’s a great time.
