Local entrepreneurs and innovators will be put in the Hinkler Hotseat next month when they present their big ideas to Shark Tank’s Glen Richards as part of the Hinkler Innovation Series.

Known by many for his role in Network Ten’s Shark Tank, Glen has made a name for himself in the entrepreneurial sphere as a business owner, co-founder and chairman of various organisations.

He is the co-founder of Greencross and Petbarn, employing more than 6000 staff including veterinarians, nurses, retail team members, groomers and managers across Australia and New Zealand, including in the Bundaberg Region.

Glen will attend Bundaberg Regional Council’s Hinkler Innovation Series on 10 November as a keynote speaker as well as a judge in the panel for the Hinkler Hotseat.

The Shark Tank-inspired event will give chosen local innovators the chance to showcase their big tech ideas.

Glen said he was thrilled to visit the region and to help to inspire local, aspiring entrepreneurs.

“Bundaberg is simply one of the best climatic regions on the planet,” he said.

“I love regional cities, they are excellent locations to start businesses.”

Glen said the Hinkler Innovation Series was the perfect space to discuss entrepreneurship, innovation and the challenges involved.

“Innovation and asking ‘how can we do this better?’ is and should be at the heart of every organisation and every community to deliver social good,” Glen said.

“Roadblocks and problems inspire opportunities and solutions.”

When asked what advice he had for those wanting to embark on their own entrepreneurial journey, Glen said listening to others was integral.

“Find mentors (and not just one) that can challenge your ideas, challenge your thinking and plans and then LISTEN to them,” he said.

“Weigh up their experiences and advice and be willing to change based on your reflections of good and robust conversations with people more experienced than you.

“Have a clear vision, develop a plan, find great people to join the team, be patient and humble, and remember, passion and purpose delivers exceptional outcomes.”

How to watch or get involved

Selected businesses will be invited on stage for a five minute pitch, followed by 10 minutes of questions and answers from the panellists.

The event will be held on Thursday 10 November from 6 am to 9 pm at the Bundaberg Multiplex, 1 Civic Avenue.
