Gin Gin organisations passionate about tourism are invited to apply for an opportunity to share the area’s highlights with visitors.

Bundaberg Regional Council is calling for expressions of interest from not-for-profit and community-based organisations to deliver visitor information services in Gin Gin.

Divisional representative Cr Wayne Honor said Council had launched the EOI process for an operator of the Visitor Information Centre in Gin Gin after Bundaberg Tourism made the decision to close centre in October 2021.

“Following presentations from Bundaberg Tourism, Council accepted its advice that the Gin Gin Visitor Information Centre was no longer financially viable,” Cr Honor said.

“Council understands the importance of maintaining a strong tourism presence in Gin Gin to promote the area’s many attractions.

“Looking back in time to the first tourism body that was established in Gin Gin it was coordinated by a community alliance, an arrangement which I know from experience worked very well.

“If there’s a community group in the town that would like to share the good word about tourism to travellers, now is the time to step up and champion our community.”

The Visitor Information Centre is located on Mulgrave Street in the heart of the CBD along the recently revitalised streetscape area.

EOIs are being sought from organisations that wish to deliver visitor services from this location.

The role of the successful Gin Gin Visitor Information Centre applicant would be to:

  • Establish and operate a non-accredited VIC that provides accurate visitor information and services for visitors and the community
  • Create and maintain an innovative centre that fosters a passion for the Gin Gin community and is willing to collaborate with businesses, operators, and other local community organisations
  • Create and maintain direct modes of communication that inform Bundaberg Tourism and Bundaberg Regional Council in regard to tourism related opportunities to promote the Gin Gin area.

Based on the results of this EOI, Council may invite shortlisted organisations to submit further written information on their proposal to operate the Gin Gin Visitor Information Centre.

The closing date for EOIs is Friday 22 July.
