Concept plans for the Elliott Heads Recreation Plaza have been revealed ahead of construction which is set to kick off in 2022.
The plans include a skate facility and nature-based play area to be located between the Elliott Heads Kiosk and community hall.
The artist impressions reveal the skate area is set to feature a range of rails and ramps and the nature-based play area will further challenge youth with opportunities for parkour and climbing.
Divisional representative Cr Tanya McLoughlin said the need for facilities in Elliott Heads which would cater to children within an older age bracket were identified through a community petition in 2017.
“There has been extensive community consultation on the proposal to establish a play facility in Elliott Heads to date,” Cr McLoughlin said.
“It’s exciting to see this long-awaited project moving to the next stage.
“The foreshore redevelopment has already lifted the area and the Elliott Heads Recreation Plaza will only enhance this further.”
Cr McLoughlin said, following community feedback in 2019, Council had changed the location of the new play facility.
“During community consultation it became apparent that the proposed location, west of the community hall, was not preferred by nearby residents.
“As a result of the feedback, and thanks to a recent sewerage network upgrade, we’ve been able to change the location.
“The new location between the kiosk and the community hall not only improves outcomes for residents but will co-locate the new Elliott Heads Recreation Plaza with existing facilities such as the toilet block, playground and basketball court.”
The concept designs are available to view in full on the Elliott Heads Recreation Plaza project page.
Residents are also welcome to leave their feedback in regards to the plans on the project page.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2022, weather permitting.
