Adventure flights will be offered in the Wirraway war plane as part of Bundaberg Aero Club’s open day event.

Locals are invited to get their long weekend off to a flying start with the Bundaberg Aero Club holding their annual open day today.

Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun-filled morning out, there’s something for the whole family from aircraft displays to adventure flights and even a jumping castle for the kids.

Peter Campanini of the Bundaberg Aero Club said this year was particularly exciting due to the presence of an authentic War Plane that would be visiting from Brisbane.

“An iconic Wirraway war plane – that will be conducting the Bundaberg Regional Anzac Day flypast – will be at the open day for those who are game enough for an adventure flight, or just want to have a sticky beak at this historic aircraft,” Mr Campanini said.

“Having a war plane from Warplanes Pty Ltd here is a rare occasion for the Bundaberg community and we are excited to be able to offer locals an opportunity to see this magnificent aircraft up close and even go for a flight.

“We will also have a range of other aircraft including helicopters available for short scenic flights, as well as the local flight schools who will be conducting 30 minute trial introductory flights where you can sit in the pilot’s seat and learn the basics of flying.

“For those who aren’t as keen to get in the air, there will be plenty to see and do on the airfield at ground level, with aircraft displays, a jumping castle for the kids and a barbecue.

“CQU will also be at the event for those more serious about aviation to discuss local study options for those who may be interested in a career in the industry. “

The Bundaberg Aero Club’s annual event is a one-of-a-kind experience for locals to get up close and personal with a range of aircrafts, meet local pilots and even experience the region from above for those keen for a flight.
