From science experiments, arts and crafts and even a guided nature walk through the Baldwin Swamp, there is so much on offer throughout Bundaberg Regional Council’s facilities these school holidays.
Here’s a list of what’s on for the Easter holidays:
FRIDAY, 2 APRIL
Easter activities at the Botanic Gardens
When: 2 April to 18 April
Time: 9 am to 3 pm
Where: Botanic Gardens
Kids can enjoy two brand new activities at the Botanic Gardens in the Easter school holidays, including an activity sheet and a drawing activity.
In the April Garden Kids Activity Sheet, the garden’s younger visitors can match shadows, search for words, draw in the missing halves, count, draw and complete a plant label.
Next, create an artwork for The Drawing Tree by picking up some free paper, designing a nature based drawing and dropping it into the box at Cafe 1928.
The Botanic Gardens team will hang your artwork on The Drawing Tree, a real live tree next to the top lake – just look for the signs.
Be sure to come back in the holidays to spot your artwork on The Drawing Tree.
Pick up your activity sheet and paper at Cafe 1928, Hinkler Hall of Aviation or Bundaberg and District Historical Museum.
Limited pencils to take and keep will be supplied.
Feel free to use any art materials to make your drawing.
You can also use your own paper from home, no larger than an A4 sheet.

WEDNESDAY, 7 APRIL
A Bee Story
Time: 10 am and noon

Children are sure to enjoy this circus of fun, coming straight out of the Sydney Festival.
A Bee Story features a buzzy and adventurous new physical theatre workshop for children and families, exploring ways we can work together in sticky situations while celebrating native Australian flora and fauna.

Place Invaders
When: 10 April to 20 June
Where: Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery
It’s Queensland’s close encounters of the invasive species kind!
Play Place Invaders, a fun 80s inspired game developed by Queensland State Archives in the Imaginarts Gallery Space.
This interactive game enables you to use your mobile phone to stop invasive plants and animals from taking over the environment, teaching valuable lessons about how invasive species cause great economic and environmental harm in our state.
SUNDAY, 11 APRIL
Disco Rainbow Dance Party

Space-themed Outdoor Artroom

Where: Gallery Park, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery – 1 Barolin Street
Join Messy Myrtle for free art play this school holidays where Messy will explore a range of space-themed activities.
Young art lovers will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Get ready for bright colours, loud noises, and simple yet profound science ideas as we delve into what makes science dangerous.
Parents don’t worry Dr Joe focuses on the SAFETY message of science in the most entertaining and exciting way he can during this session.

TUESDAY, 13 APRIL
Motion Madness Science

Feel the forces, experience the motion!
Dr Joe’s motion and force show is a fun and informative way to introduce young scientists to concepts such as inertia, force, and gravity.
Try out the vacuum bazooka, experience the inertial wheel, and find out what happens when Barbie forgets to wear her seatbelt!

Reef Gems and Coral Roses – Children’s Workshop
Time: 10 am
Where: Childers Arts Space
Spend the morning with Hadie MacLeod looking at her exhibition “Reef Gems and Coral Roses”.
You will also have the opportunity to make an artwork about coral reefs.
WEDNESDAY, 14 APRIL
H is for Happiness- Free Family Film
Time: 11 am
Where: Moncrieff Entertainment Centre
Enjoy this free family film, based on the young adult novel My Life As An Alphabet by Australian author Barry Jonsberg.
H is for Happiness follows Candice Phee, an unflinchingly honest and optimistic twelve year old who is determined to bring her dysfunctional family back from the brink.
Her exploits will inspire and delight anyone who has faced the trials of adolescence and the heartbreak of family tragedy.
Prior to the screening, an Autumn in the Park event will take place in Buss Park.
A huge range of free activities will be offered from 9.30am followed by the screening of H is for Happiness at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.
Magic of Science

A science show with a difference!
Outwit the wacky science wizard as he takes you on a magical journey of mystery, science and magic!
This show blends magic and science to inspire children to generate theories and test their own ideas.
This is a light-hearted show that’s great for a good laugh!

THURSDAY, 15 APRIL
Guided nature walk at Baldwin Swamp
Time: 9am
Where: Baldwin Swamp
Council’s Natural Areas Ranger will be running a free guided nature walk at Baldwin Swamp.
Children will take part in a scavenger hunt and will also learn about the different types of leaves in the area.
For ages 5 to 10 years.
Each child needs to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
