Australia Day in Childers will present an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the manner in which the district triumphed in the face of adversity during 2020.
A free community event including a barbecue breakfast will be held at the Isis War Memorial Pool from 7am next Tuesday 26 January.
Childers Australia Day committee representative Donna Duncan OAM, said the restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic meant that no individual awards would be presented this year.
“However, the committee is mindful of the amazing effort of every one of our residents during the past 12 months and see this Australia Day as a means of celebrating that collective achievement,” she said.
Mrs Duncan said Childers had continued a tradition of making local awards on Australia Day.
“There is a lot of pride in our district and there are so many people who contribute their time and talents to progress our community,” she said.
“This is achieved through administering sporting organisations through to running clubs and groups that genuinely enrich the lives of everyone living is this amazing district.”
Mrs Duncan said the Childers Rotary Club would be preparing the free breakfast and the morning would feature the traditional Australia Day acknowledgments.
“Everyone is encouraged to enjoy a swim before breakfast and even a few pool activities have been organised,” she said.
“The event is planned to occupy just a few hours in the morning to allow people to attend other events or to enjoy their own planned Australia Day celebrations.”
Social distancing and COVID-19 reporting protocols will apply.

It would have been great to see more people attending this function this morning. It was very poorly supported. Whether that is because more people did not know it was being held or for what ever reason we will never know. If it is held in 2022 promote it to get the people there. Australia Day is a great day to celebrate
