Bioindustry experts from throughout Australia will attend Bundaberg Regional Council’s first bioeconomy conference to examine opportunities to develop the sector in the region.
The Bioeconomy Bundaberg 2020 Conference will be held at the Multiplex from 1-2 October and interested parties can also register for site tours of the new Utilitas Bio Hub and Multikraft Australian Biotech Agricultural Centre of Excellence.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said the exciting initiative would feature leading speakers within the fields of bioindustry, government and education.
“The Bundaberg Region is well positioned to gain advantage from the biofutures sector,” Mayor Dempsey said.
“We have access to a range of biomass options including forestry, fruit, vegetables, sugar and general waste.
“The region also already has a number of solar farms and we are aligned to establish ourselves as a renewable energy mecca.”
The conference comes after a recent Council commissioned report produced by TfA project group confirmed the importance the bioeconomy could play in the sustainability and economic growth of the region.
“This exciting conference will be of interest to farmers, scientists and industry experts.
“These are the key players in this industry and the Bioeconomy Bundaberg 2020 Conference will bring them together under the same roof.
“Over the two days we will examine the opportunities that exist to develop the bioeconomy sector in the Bundaberg Region to ensure the sustainability of the region while at the same time opening up new job opportunities.”

Registrations for the site tours and Bioeconomy Bundaberg 2020 Conference are essential with tickets limited to 50 day delegates.
Anyone who can’t attend the conference in person can register to participate via live stream with tickets limited to 30 virtual delegates.
