A “dorrie” is to have a “sticky beak” or sneak peak, and this is exactly what will happen at Dorrie Day this Thursday, organised by the Port Curtis Coral Coat Trust Limited (PCCC).
PCCC Project Officer Veronica Johnson said it will be a great day to highlight opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“The PCCC is fortunate to be a part of a strong network of great organisations providing employment, training and essential services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community,” she said.
“We are excited to let people come and have a Dorrie at all the great opportunities available here at the site and, of course, join us for lunch and a chance to win some great prizes.
“Dorrie Day is for everyone to come along and see the broad range of employment and training services and more specifically for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to engage directly with employers, trainers, and support services.
Dorrie Day has something for everyone
“From Drone Piloting, Coxswain and Ranger courses all the way through to Business Administration, the Dorrie Day has something for everyone.”
“It’s going to be a fun day exploring options around employment and the pathways to employment.
“We will have cooking demonstrations, drone demonstrations, a free BBQ, a lucky door prize and Drivers College demonstrating a distracted driver program.”
Dorrie Day will be held this Thursday, 6th August from 10am till 2.30 at 2 Marina Drive, Burnett Heads.
PCCC Project Coordinator Shay Pearce said they would like people to let them know if they’re coming along to the free day, or if they’d like to transport.
“If people would like transport to the event they have to register by today (Tuesday, 4th August) by calling 07 4167 0037 or 0412973589,” she said.
“If you are not requiring transport please register by tomorrow (Wednesday 5th August) for catering purposes.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Dorrie Day to find out about employment and education opportunities, as well as linking with local services to provide foundation support to increase employment sustainability.
“ATSI will be connecting directly with local employers to apply for and discuss employment opportunities.
“PCCC will support with local referrals and resume writing.
“We also work closely with YBI (Yalga-binbi Institute) who offer a wide range of training choices and will be available to discuss these with attendees.”
