Mamma Mia’s Bundaberg production is set to start rehearsals for 2020 on Friday. It will be the Bundaberg Players’ 474th production.

Director Rebecca Hutchins said it’s going to be a great show.

“After a sell-out season of Mary Poppins at the end of 2019, the cast of Mamma Mia are raring to go,” Rebecca said.

“We were blown away with the interest in being in the show with 77 actors, singers and dancers auditioning.

“We couldn’t be happier with the cast of 42 – with many seasoned performers and some newcomers who are sure to impress.”

Feel-good musical

“The feel-good musical is based on the songs of Abba and follows the story of Sophie, who is busy preparing for her wedding on a Greek Island, when three surprise guests arrive and throw a spanner in the works.

“It will be full of Abba’s greatest songs, colourful costumes and top dancing.

“We can’t wait to bring Mamma Mia to Bundaberg audiences.”

Bundaberg Players will perform Mamma Mia on the Playhouse stage for 12 performances, starting 20 March.

Mamma Mia’s Bundaberg production is included in the subscription season for Bundaberg Players, along with the comedy Allo Allo!, the Shakespeare classic Midsummer Night’s Dream, the hilarious but poignant Secret Bridesmaid’s Business and a Pantomime to finish the year, Robin Hood and Babes in the Wood.

2020 subscriptions open

Theatregoers can purchase 2020 Subscriptions online at the Playhouse Theatre website , at the reduced rate of $80 until 31 January. From 1 February subscriptions will rise.

“With such a busy year, subscriptions will be more important than ever,” Rebecca said.

“Subscribers get to book their seats the day before the Box Office opens to the public, as well as receiving lots of other benefits.

“With so many top quality shows on this year we think there’s no better time to subscribe to the Playhouse Theatre.”
