Angels Community Group is again doing everything possible to support families in the Bundaberg Region through its School Back Pack program.
The community-based organisation aims to provide 150 children with a new school back pack, lunch box, drink bottle and stationary supplies to start the 2020 school year.
“This school back pack program not only helps to relieve the financial burden families are facing at this time of year but also ensures the children we are helping, are starting school with everything they need for learning,” Angels chief executive Sue Tasker said.
“It gives them confidence and provides a positive start to the new school year.
“Last year, we supplied 130 school back packs to local kids but this year we are aiming for 150.
“The need for support in our community continues to rise and back to school is a particularly difficult time of year for families.”
Sue said the team at Angels was humbled by the support from the local community.
The 2019 Christmas Hamper Program was the biggest to date, supporting more than 165 local families. The program was completely driven by donations from the community and the support of local businesses.
“We are often bought to tears, the support we receive is so overwhelming, our Bundaberg community is truly amazing,” Sue said.
Angels Community Group is asking for help from those who are able to assist.
Helping children to thrive and learn
“It is a big program and we need all the support we can get to help ensure that as many children as possible start the 2020 school year with everything they need to thrive and learn,” Sue said.
If you can assist the school back pack program, Angels Community Group are asking for either cash or gift card donations or essential school supplies such as:
- School bags
- Lunch boxes
- Pencil cases
- Drink bottles
- School stationery supplies (A4 exercise books, HB pencils, 12 packs of textas and pencils, school scissors, rulers, erasers, glue sticks)
“We would greatly appreciate any support anyone can offer, as a not for profit, community based organisation,” Sue said.
“We depend on donations and the generosity of our community to continue to support people in our region that are under-privileged, unemployed or at risk.”
Donations for the School Back Pack program can be dropped into Angels Community Group at 45a Walla Street, Bundaberg South, preferably by 17 January 2020 or you can call the team on 4100 2715 for more information on how to help.
